From Monday Feburary 14th, until
Monday February 21th, I will live and work in David
Johnston's ETAY Loft, at 2019 Moreau, in Montréal,
Canada. (http://etay.ca)
The ETAY Loft is equipped with digital video-cameras,
which makes it possible to capture video 24/7. There
are 4 cameras in the main room, and 1 in the bathroom,
with automated saving based on motion dectection, to
.mov format, and possible realtime effects interaction
through a Flash GUI, and a gamepad.
During an earlier residency (jan. 14th-19th 2005), Jake
Elliot (http://structuredsound.net/),
moreover additionally has 'audio-wired' the loft, by
building some modules of self-contained contact-mic/amplifiers,
picking up the 'loft's soundings'. Jake also added some
patches for automated treatment of these signals.
Within the setting and set-up provided by David and
Jake, I am going to use my 'lo-fi' dictaphone-type equipment,
for supplementary recording and playback of the sounds
(and the near-silences) occuring during the week of
my residency, both inside and outside the loft. (Inside
the loft, I will either - if possible & provided
- use a double bass as a sound-source to be un/discovered,
or work on constructing and investigating a 'double
bass like' acoustic contraption.) My 'noisy/analog'
recordings will (eventually) be cut up, mixed and confronted
with the 'clean/digitally' captured and treated images,
and the audio-signals captured through Jake's wiring
and patches.

Recording is 'threshold' controlled:
only when the signal picked up by the microphone is above
a certain threshold, sound is recorded onto the hard disk.
This short file is a chronological 'assemblage' of some
100/150 of these 'micro'-takes...
Tuesday, 02.15.05
HarS guest artists captured from the motion-triggered
cameras.

above the mirror and the wash basin is the 'miror's touch
screen. When you touch and massage the screen with your
fingers, your image distorts (fluid dynamics)...
